Gustaw Arnold (I) Fibinger (born October 16, 1847 in Kalisch , Congress Poland ; † July 15, 1915 in Warsaw , then the Russian Empire ) was a German-Polish piano maker, entrepreneur and factory founder.

Life

Fibinger came from a family who immigrated to Kalisch from Saxony, who like dozens of others followed the call of the rapidly expanding industry in the west of the tsarist empire after the Congress of Vienna . In 1876 he went into business for himself with a craft business.

Arnold Fibiger's former factory in Kalisch

In 1878 he founded the Fabryka Fortepianów i Pianin Arnold Fibiger w Kaliszu (factory for grand pianos and pianos Arnold Fibiger in Kalisch). This factory operated under this name until 1949 and after nationalization continued production under the name Calisia (Latin for Kalisch) until 2007. In 2000 Calisia was bought by Warsaw investors. However, the investment of 2 million złoty could not prevent production from ceasing in 2007. The factory building has been a listed building since 1991, as one of the few buildings in the city from the time before the war damage of 1914.

reception

The pianist Krystian Zimerman , the winner of the International Chopin Competition 1975, described his Calisia piano as the most suitable for performances with works by Frédéric Chopin .
