Michael Charles "Mike" Yaconelli (born July 24, 1942 in California , † October 30, 2003 in San Diego , California) was an evangelical theologian, pastor, journalist and writer. He was a co-founder of Youth Specialties , a Christian training center for youth, and the founder of The Wittenburg Door , a satirical Christian magazine. With his unconventional theology and emphasis on authenticity and grace , he can be seen as a pioneer of the emerging church .

Life

Yaconelli grew up in California. He co-founded the Youth Specialties training and materials center in El Cajon, near San Diego, and has been running a small church in Yreka , Northern California with his wife Karla since 1983 . He also wrote articles for the satirical magazine The Wittenburg Door , which he had founded; later it was called The Door . He wrote books for youth leaders, trained young people and was a speaker at Christian conferences and festivals, including the Greenbelt Festival in Great Britain. There he said: If I have a heart attack right now, I hope that I will have just enough air in my lungs and enough strength to be able to pronounce one last sentence as I fall to the ground: “What a man Ride! "My life had ups and downs, sometimes it went to the left, then to the right, full of mistakes and bad decisions, and if I die now, although I would much rather live longer, I can say from the depths of my soul:" What a ride! "

Yaconelli was killed in a car accident in 2003 while helping his father move. His wife Karla said about him at the memorial service in San Diego in 2004: Cinderella Michael Charles Yaconelli. Unorganized. Total integrity. Kind. Sincere. Intensive. Eccentric. Passionate. Spontaneous. Annoying in between. Extremely bright. Painfully honest. Sociable. Too deeply insecure. A strange mixture of introversion and extraversion. Fun loving. Full of doubt ... believing ... believing. Impractical. Carefree. Lonely. Adventurous. The absolute master of romance. Self-critical. Inspiring. Lonely. Sensitive. Powerful. Stress candidate. Cozy. Obsessed with grace. Filled with grace. Passionate. Poetic. Crazy on the streets. Left out. Between stable and rigid. Sensitive. Morally. Selfless. Carefree and moody. Prophetic. Artistic. Unruly. Wise. Generous. Attacked by fear. Rebellious. Generous beyond description. Chasing after God. Jesus lover. Proud of jesus Jesus lived in him. My.
