Arnold von Solms

Arnold von Solms († July 19, 1296 ) was bishop of the Bamberg diocese from 1286 until his death in 1296 .

Life

Arnold von Solms, also Arnold Graf von Solms, comes from the extensive Hessian counts of the von Solms family . The eponymous castle is located in what is now the Burgsolms district of the city of Solms in the Lahn-Dill district in Hesse .

At the time of Arnold's appointment on May 15, 1286 by Pope Honorius IV. As Bishop of Bamberg, Rudolf I of Habsburg was King of the Holy Roman Empire (see also List of Heads of State 1286 ). He was ordained bishop in Rome before June 13, 1286.

Arnold significantly expanded the diocese, but he was also increasingly forced to mortgage castles and estates. He is considered a sponsor of monasteries and hospitals.
