Manegold von Neuenburg († July 12, 1303 in Würzburg ) was Bishop of Bamberg 1285–1286 and Bishop of Würzburg 1287–1303.

Life

Manegold von Neuchâtel was born in Burglauer, Lower Franconia, as the son of the local "von Lure" family at Lure Castle . On May 17, 1285, on the anniversary of the death of his predecessor, Count Berthold von Leiningen , he was elected Bishop of Bamberg . Manegold traveled to Rome , probably to receive the episcopal ordination there. He resigned from the office of bishop in Bamberg for unknown reasons.

Manegold von Neuenburg then received the bishopric of Würzburg in 1287. He made important new acquisitions for the diocese: In 1292 he bought Thüngen Castle from the widow Adelheid, wife of Count Hermann II von Henneberg . From the childless Count Konrad von Wildberg he received half of Wildberg Castle (near Bad Königshofen in the Grabfeld ) and parts of the associated rulership in 1298 . In addition, in 1300 he bought the Zabelstein castle and manor .

The bishop's personal physician was a Magister Berngerus who can be documented from 1301 to 1312.

He died as Bishop of Würzburg on July 12, 1303. References to the bishop's grave in Würzburg Cathedral can be found in Lorenz Fries and Johann Octavian Salver . A heart sepulture in the Ebrach monastery is assigned to him.
