Arnoldus van Anthonissen (* around 1631 probably in Leiden ; † around 1703 in Zierikzee ), called Aernout, was a Dutch painter who worked as a house painter, marble and marine painter , merchant and probably also as an art dealer.

Life

Arnoldus van Anthonissen was born around 1631 as the son of the painter Hendrick van Anthonissen and his wife Judith Flessiers. This imprecise date and the probable place of birth Leiden result from the fact that Hendrick van Anthonissen and his wife drew up a will in 1632 and included their children in it. In 1661 Arnoldus van Anthonissen was named as house painter in Leiden and the following year as captain of the St. Luke guild. In 1663 he is mentioned as "schilder met de groote quast ceiling Aernoldus Antonisse" (in German: "painter with the big brush dean Aernoldus Antonisse" ).

On September 23, 1664, the painter was granted citizenship in Zierikzee, from 1665 to 1669 he was a member of the guild in Middelburg for fine painters and marble painters and paid his contribution there. Before 1677 he married Catharina Hepertsdr van Rheenen and after her death in 1681 Machelina van Ijsselstejn. In addition to paintings, he produced coats of arms for the church and maps and had his own glove and hat shop in Zierikzee. He also collected paintings by other masters. He died in Zierikzee around 1703.
