Arp Schnittger (born April 30, 1971 ) is a German biologist and professor of developmental biology at the University of Hamburg .

Career

From 1992 to 1997 Arp Schnittger completed his diploma in biology at the University of Tübingen and the University of Washington in Seattle (USA). In 2001 he received his PhD in genetics from the University of Tübingen. From 2001 to 2007 he was group leader at the chair for botany at the University of Cologne and completed his habilitation in botany in 2007. Between 2007 and 2014 he was research group leader and between 2009 and 2013 department head at the Institut de biologie moléculaire des plantes in Strasbourg (France). Arp Schnittger has been Professor of Developmental Biology at the University of Hamburg since 2014.

Research priorities

Arp Schnittger researches the control of mitosis (process of mitotic phase transitions, especially the control of the exit of mitosis through the spindle checkpoint), as well as the control of meiosis (entry into meiosis and the reprogramming of a somatic cell into a meiocyte as well as the process the meiotic phases) and the control of DNA repair (selection and switching of different repair mechanisms).
