Arrilaser film recorder

The Arrilaser is a digital imagesetter that was developed by the Munich-based film equipment manufacturer Arnold & Richter Cine Technik (ARRI for short) in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques (IPM). The film recorder was introduced in 2000 and replaces previous systems that used cathode ray tubes .

The Arrilaser digitally exposes existing material on 35-millimeter film using three lasers in the primary colors red, green and blue. The writing density per film image reaches both 2K and 4K resolution. The device thus covers the entire current professional segment. The source material can be imported from a mobile hard drive or via a data line.

The developers Franz Kraus, Johannes Steurer and Wolfgang Riedel received the Technology Oscar ( Oscar / Science and Development ) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Arrilaser in 2002. At the award ceremony on February 11, 2012, the highest form of the technology Oscar followed in the form of the Oscar / Academy Award of Merit .
