The Arsenal Tunnel was a 160 m long railway tunnel in Vienna's 10th district of Favoriten , which existed from 1873 to 1962. It was also called the StEG tunnel because it was built by this private railway company, which was nationalized in 1909. 1980–2009 it was subsequently used as a road tunnel for internal postal traffic.

The tunnel was built on two tracks in 1873 as part of the re-routing of the connecting line between the Vienna Meidling (then Meidling) station and the former main customs office . Before that, the connecting tram had crossed the forecourt of the south and east stations at street level.

The tunnel section crossed under the Ostbahn tracks (approximately at the level of today's Alfred-Adler-Straße) and was in operation as a railway tunnel from May 4, 1873 to November 16, 1958. The Arsenal stop used to be located between the Wien Rennweg stop, which is still used as an S-Bahn station today, and the north-eastern tunnel portal (in today's Schweizergarten ) . To the west of the tunnel was connected to the Steudel tunnel, which was no longer in existence and crossed under the southern railway tracks.

After the Viennese rapid transit system went into full operation in 1962, the tunnel was filled in. In 1980 it was put back into operation as a road tunnel in order to create a second road access to the Vienna South Post Center, which was demolished in 2009 on what was then the Südbahnhof area. It no longer exists either. Today the Quartier Belvedere and the Sonnwendviertel extend there .
