Artabazos (Charakene)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artabazos (* around 135/134 BC; † around 48 BC; also Artabazos I) was a king of the Charakene .

Artabazos ruled around 48 BC. Until now, it is only known from a single tetradrachm , which is also dated and refers to the year 264 (= 49/48 BC) of the Seleucid era . He is also mentioned by Lukian . There he appears, probably incorrectly, as the seventh ruler of the Charakene. He is said to have come to power with Parthian help and was 86 years old when he came to power. It can be assumed that he did not rule for long, especially since the first minting of his successor Attambelos I as early as 47/46 BC. Insert.
