Artbank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Artbank was founded in 1980 by the Australian central government to promote national artists. It is part of the Federal Department of Communications and the Arts and the largest collector of works of art in Australia. Artbank acquires works of art and rents them to public and private institutions, companies and private individuals.

It is a state subsidy for artists, which is in contrast to the art banking of private banks.

organization

In 2011, the Artbank held more than 10,000 Aboriginal paintings, sculptures , drawings, videos and works of art by 3,500 national artists. In the same year it was announced that all purchased works would be put on the Internet. Artbank has showrooms in Sydney , Melbourne and Perth .

Artbank is a division in the Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, Sports and Arts based in Sydney.

Terms of contract

The cost of a loan starts at a minimum of AUD 110 per work of art and a contract fee of AUD 550 per year. These fees are fully tax deductible for companies. The contract can be extended at the end of the 12-month binding contract or the works can also be returned and others loaned out.

Another art bank

The Canadian Art Bank , which has existed for 40 years in 2012, is pursuing a similar concept with 17,000 paintings, prints , photographs and sculptures by around 3,000 national artists.
