Artemidor (painter)
Artemidor was a Roman painter who worked in the 1st century.
He is known from an epigram by the poet Martial . In the short epigram, Artemidor is asked why he was surprised that his image of the goddess of love Venus did not appeal to the audience, when his goddess was Minerva . It was discussed that Artemidor was a poetic invention of Martial or that Martial made a swipe at a poet who was a dilettante who painted a picture of Minerva.
