Posterior circumflex artery
The arteria circumflexa humeri posterior (" arteria circumflexa humeri caudalis winding around the back of the humerus") - called in animal anatomy as arteria circumflexa humeri caudalis - is an artery in the area of the shoulder and upper arm . It arises at the lower edge of the deltoid muscle from the axillary artery ( arteria axillaris ) and runs together with the axillary nerve through the lateral axillary gap to the outside of the shoulder, where it winds around the neck of the humerus .
The arteria circumflexa posterior humeri supplies the shoulder joint and the musculus deltoideus. It anastomoses with the anterior artery of the same name ( arteria circumflexa humeri anterior ) and the arteria profunda brachii .
