Arteria circumflexa humeri anterior

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arteries and nerves of the axillary region

The arteria circumflexa humeri anterior (“anterior artery encircling the humerus”, referred to in animals as the arteria circumflexa humeri cranialis ) is, like the larger arteria circumflexa humeri posterior , a branch of the axillary artery ( arteria axillaris ).

It arises on the opposite, lateral side of the axillary artery and runs horizontally under the coracobrachialis muscle and the short head of the biceps muscle ( biceps brachii muscle ) around the collum chirurgicum of the upper arm bone ( humerus ).

It finally reaches the area of the sulcus intertubercularis of the humerus, where it releases a branch that rises cranially into the sulcus and supplies the humeral head and shoulder joint with arterial blood. The main trunk of the vessel runs a little further down the arm under the long biceps head and the deltoid muscle and finally connects with the posterior circumflex artery.
