Descending palatine artery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The descending palatal artery ("descending palatal artery") is an artery in the head. It arises in the area of the pterygopalatine fossa from the third section of the maxillary artery . It divides into the arteria palatina major ("large palatal artery") and the arteriae palatinae minores ("small palatal arteries "). The former runs, together with the greater palatine nerve , through the greater palatine foramen to the hard palate , the latter through the lesser palatine foramen to the soft palate and the tonsils , where they anastomose with the branches of the ascending palatine artery .
