Sublingual artery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sublingual artery (" sublingual artery ") is an artery in the head. In humans, it arises from the lingual artery (tongue artery) at the front edge of the hyoglossus muscle and extends forward between the mylohyoid muscle and the mandibular salivary gland. It supplies the gums, the mandibular salivary gland and the muscles of the floor of the oral cavity.

In ruminants, the sublingual artery also arises from the tongue artery, whereas in predators , pigs and horses it arises from the facial artery .
