Inferior thyroid artery

The inferior thyroid artery or inferior thyroid artery ("lower thyroid artery") - referred to in animals as the caudal thyroid artery ("posterior thyroid artery") - is an arterial blood vessel in the neck. Together with the superior thyroid artery , which is a branch of the external carotid artery , it supplies the thyroid . The anatomical variants of this artery are large. It can even be completely absent at least on one side, or it can be created twice.

The inferior thyroid artery is a branch of the thyrocervical trunk ("thyroid neck trunk") and runs along the anterior scalene muscle and then turns medially in an arc. The artery runs in front of the vertebral artery and dorsal to the vascular-nerve cord from the common carotid artery and the vagus nerve that extends to the head . It reaches the thyroid gland and runs down the back to the lower pole, where it then finally enters. It also discharges the inferior laryngeal artery , which supplies the lower part of the larynx .
