Arthur Henry Beard (born September 3, 1879 in Seaforth , † 1943 ) was an English football player .

Career

The right winger came in August 1904 from New Brighton to the second division Burnley FC and took part in an internal test match. In early September he met for Burnley's reserve team against the reserves of Padiham FC in a 1-1 draw in the North-East Lancashire Combination . A week later he moved for the ankle injured Jimmy Hogan for an away game in the Football League Second Division against the Bolton Wanderers in the first team.

In addition to Beard, William Hutchinson also made his debut in the attack line, but the 4-0 defeat remained the only competitive game for both. The press comment was clear afterwards: “At this point in time, Beard is barely“ top notch ”enough for [football] league games. He is blessed with a good build, but his football training is far from over. ”Beard probably left the club soon, but his name is no longer on the reserve team after the Bolton game.
