Arthur Ashton Carnell (born March 21, 1862 in London , † September 11, 1940 in London ) was a British marksman .
successes
Arthur Carnell took part in the 1908 Olympic Games in London , where he competed with the small bore rifle at 50 and 100 yards. With a total of 387 points, he finished the competition ahead of Harold Humby and George Barnes in first place, making him Olympic champion . Because of this performance, he was offered a starting place in the team competition, for which he was previously only named as a reserve. Carnell turned down the offer, however, as he did not want to deny any other shooter the chance of an Olympic competition.
