Arthur Linder

Arthur Linder (born October 26, 1904 in Lausanne , † February 8, 1993 near Geneva ) was a Swiss statistician.

In 1934 Arthur Linder received his doctorate from the University of Bern with a thesis on the calculation of life tables . He also completed his habilitation in Bern in 1938, and in 1942 Linder was given a teaching position for mathematical statistics at the ETH Zurich .

In 1945 he was appointed associate professor for mathematical statistics at the University of Geneva , and in 1948 at the ETH in Zurich. In 1956 he was appointed full professor for mathematical statistics at the University of Geneva, and in 1969 at the ETH in Zurich. In 1966 he was appointed professor at the University of Lausanne , where he was a member of the medical faculty.

In 1960 Arthur Linder was awarded the title of Dr. med. hc awarded.

Arthur Linder Prize

In honor of Arthur Linder, a prize is awarded every two years to younger members of the Austria-Switzerland Region (ROeS) of the International Biometric Society.
