Arthur Mestschjan ( English Meschian; arm. Արթուր Մեսչյան; born March 3, 1949 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is an Armenian architect , composer and singer .

Life

Arthur (Artashes) Mestschjan has been involved in painting, music, fencing and modeling since his youth. He graduated from the music school “A. Spendiarow ”, where he learned to play the violin and piano. Mestschjan sang in the children's choir of the "Yerevan Opera Theater". He later learned to play the guitar. Mestschjan began composing while still at school.

From 1966 Mestschjan studied at the Polytechnic Institute in Yerevan, today called the National Polytechnic University of Armenia .

In 1967 Mestschjan founded a rock band that he later called "Arakjalner" ( Apostle ). The piece "The Insane Asylum" (madhouse) was the first rock opera in the history of Armenia . From 1974 Mestschjan worked as an architect in Yerevan .

Before the fall of the Iron Curtain , Mestschjan emigrated to Boston ( USA ) with his wife and two sons in 1989 .

In 1989 he gave his first concert there in the Armenian Church . In 1991 Mestschjan released his first album "Katarsis". In 1990 Mestschjan founded a rock band he called "Arakjalner-90" (Apostle-90).

From 1996 to 1997 Mestschjan returned to Armenia and worked as chief architect for Yerevan. Then he worked again in Boston.

In 2005, Mestschjan went back to Armenia with his wife. In 2011 Arthur Mestschjan was awarded the Order of Saint Mesrop Mashtots .
