Artillery Training Regiment 5

The Artillery Training Regiment 5 "Hunsrück" ( ArtLehrRgt 5 ) was a training regiment of the artillery of the Bundeswehr , which had been stationed in Idar-Oberstein since 1981 .

history

The association was founded in 1956. The III. Battalion was set up on the Grafenwoehr training area in August 1956 and had three firing batteries equipped with the US M44 self- propelled howitzer weapon system . The 1st Battalion was founded at the Hohenfels Training Area and equipped with the US armored howitzer M 7 B 2 weapon system. In February / March 1957, it was able to relocate its staff battery and regimental staff to the new location of Deines-Bruchmüller-Kaserne in Niederlahnstein . The III. Bataillon, however, relocated to the Spilburg barracks in Wetzlar in May .

In 1959, as part of the restructuring of the artillery, the 1st Battalion became the Panzerartilleriebataillon 145 (PzArtBtl 145) and the Panzerartilleriebataillon 155 (PzArtBtl 155) and the III. Battalion the field artillery battalion 135 (FArtBtl 135). The regiment itself received the designation Panzerartillerieregiment 5 (PzArtRgt 5) on April 1, 1957 .

In 1960 the regimental staff of the PzArtRegt 5 moved to Diez an der Lahn , where the regiment had its headquarters at Oranienstein Castle for over ten years . Until 1981 the association was called Artillery Regiment 5 . The regiment's staff and staff battery were stationed on January 1, 1981 in the hollow barracks in Idar-Oberstein. He were u. a. the rocket artillery teaching battalion 52 and the artillery teaching battalion 345 subordinated.

In 1992 the training regiment ended its nuclear mission and training assignment. On July 18, 1996 the association was given the traditional name "Hunsrück".
