Artur Văitoianu

Artur Văitoianu (born April 14, 1864 in Izmail ; † June 17, 1956 in Bucharest ) also Arthur Văitoianu , was a Romanian general, politician and prime minister of the country .

Life

The son of the German Weithoffer Văitoianu was born in Bessarabia . He graduated from the military school and the artillery and engineering school in Bucharest. During the First World War , Văitoianu was appointed Brigadier General in 1915 . From November 27, 1917 to June 1, 1918 he was commander of the 2nd Army Corps.

After the war he held several political offices. Văitoianu was Interior Minister (1918, 1919, 1922–23), Acting Minister of Justice (1918), Minister of War (1918–1919), Acting Foreign Minister (1919), Senator (from 1925) and from September 17, 1919 to November 30, 1919 Prime Minister of the country. After World War II , Văitoianu was arrested and imprisoned in Sighet in 1947 . He died in Bucharest at the age of 92.
