Arturo Gemmiti

Arturo Gemmiti (born March 3, 1909 in Sora , † December 26, 1991 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary film director .

Life

Gemmiti earned a living as a journalist for various magazines after graduating from high school. From 1932 he worked for the Istituto Luce as a documentary filmmaker. Among his numerous works there are quite a few close to the fascism of the "Duce" Benito Mussolini . Gemmiti was also assistant director several times; first in 1943 for Giorgio Ferronis Macario contro Zagomar , which he also edited. In 1946 he made his debut as a feature film director with Montecassino , which proved the documentary character of its maker and which was again brought to the cinemas in 1960, edited by Gemmiti himself.

In 1950 Gemmiti emigrated to South America ; there he shot other documentaries and the Argentine Crisol de hombres . After returning to his homeland, he represented some Argentine production companies in Italy and took care of the ICI documentaries . In 1965 he resumed his own activities as a director after having submitted a hit film in 1963 .

Gemmiti received an award in Venice in 1942 for one of his documentary films.
