Arvo Viljanti

Arvo Kunto Viljanti (until 1935 Viklund , born August 24, 1900 in Parainen , † July 6, 1974 ) was a Finnish historian.

In the twenties he was a co-founder of the Finnish Landscape Association (Varsinais-Suomen Maakuntaliitto) and from 1927 its managing director. In 1935 he received his doctorate from the University of Turku with a thesis on military history . He later taught Finnish history there as a lecturer . Viljanti was a longtime secretary and later chairman of the Turku Historical Society (Turun Historiallinen Yhdistys). In 1962 he was appointed professor.

Viljanti primarily researched the war history in the Baltic Sea region of the 16th and 17th centuries, e.g. B. the Russo-Swedish War 1554–1557 , which he called the First Northern War .
