Aryabhata was the first Indian earth satellite. It was named after the great Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata and launched on April 19, 1975 with the Soviet Kosmos 3M launcher. The satellite examined the stellar and solar X-rays , the gamma and neutron radiation of the sun and the particle radiation in the ionosphere .
