Asım Bezirci (* 1927 in Erzincan ; † July 2, 1993 in Sivas ) was a Turkish poet and writer.

Life

Bezirci was born in Erzincan in 1927 , where he also attended elementary school. As the son of a completely destitute family, he was lucky enough to win one of the two scholarship places for the boarding school in Erzurum , which he attended until he graduated from high school, from among 126 applicants . He then studied Turkish language and literature in Istanbul . After completing his studies, he began to write for the Gerçek magazine in 1950 . Because of his articles, under the repressive policy of the DP government at the time , eight criminal proceedings were initiated against him and he had to spend months in prison before he was acquitted in all of the proceedings. From 1955 he devoted himself entirely to literature and literary criticism. He edited and published the works of numerous Turkish writers, translated several European poets and writers into Turkish, and also translated literature from the Ottoman period into New Turkish. Asim Bezirci was on the board of the writers' union TYS and a member of the peace committee. He leaves behind a work of 68 books and innumerable magazine articles.

Asim Bersici was killed on July 2, 1993 in the arson attack on the Madımak Hotel in Sivas.
