as-Sirāt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As-Sirāt ( Arabic الصراط, DMG Aṣ-Ṣirāṭ  'way, path, road') is a bridge in Islamic eschatology that the deceased must cross in order to get to paradise . The bridge is thin as a hair and beneath it is the abyss of hell . Those who do not trust God will hesitate and stagger and then fall from the bridge. Those who trust God and who are forgiven for bad deeds can cross the bridge. The bridge is mentioned in Saheeh al-Bukhari . According to some traditions, it is said to connect the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with the Mount of Olives and comprise seven arches .

The bridge is said to be as wide as the width of a hair: the righteous will pass over it and walk to heaven, whilst the evil ones shall fall into hell. "
