Loch Kinnabus as seen from Arabus

Asabus , also Assibus , is a derelict town on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . Asabus was located in the southeast of the Oa Peninsula on the northeast bank of Loch Kinnabus about a kilometer east of Kinnabus . Like many settlement names on Oa, Asabus also comes from the Old Norse language and reflects the occupation of Islay by Vikings.

At the census in 1861 there were still eight people living in Asabus, who were divided into two families. In 1882 the existence of an uncovered and a partially covered building are recorded in Asabus; In 1981 there are two uncovered buildings. In Asabus there is a possibly man-made hill, but no further information is available about it.
