Kinnabus , also Kinabus , ( Gaelic : Cionnabus ) is a small scattered settlement on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about eight kilometers southwest of the Port Ellen ferry terminal and 17 km south of the island's capital Bowmore in the south of the Oa peninsula . A few hundred meters to the east is Loch Kinnabus . The closest settlements are the Upper and Lower Killeyan, 800 and 1600 m southwest and west, respectively, and the Coillabus, 2.5 km northeast .
description
Today Kinnabus consists of only a few inhabited, agricultural houses. In 1861, 33 people were still counted in Kinnabus, who were divided into seven families. A few hundred meters northeast of the settlement is a standing stone . This consists of slate, is 1.90 m and has a footprint of 70 × 40 cm. There may be three cairns in Loch Kinnabus that appear when the water level is low. One is known as Carn Daibhidh (David's Cairn) and has not been seen in recent investigations, so its existence is doubtful. Two more Cairns should also be visible when the water level is low. They appear as two adjacent islands, connected by stepping stones, and are known as Carn Na h-Airde Duibhe (Cairn in the black place). During investigations in 1977 and 1978, however, the objects found were mistaken for natural rock islands, so that no confirmation exists for the existence of these Cairns either.
