Henrik Becker

Henrik Becker (born September 7, 1902 in Budapest , † February 10, 1984 in Jena ) was a German linguist .

He studied German at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate there in 1923. In 1924 he became a lecturer at the University of Budapest and in 1926 a volunteer assistant at the Linguistics Institute of the University of Leipzig. In 1951 he was appointed professor with teaching assignment for the German language and older German literature and in 1953 professor for German studies in Jena . In 1956 he was appointed director of the Institute for Language Maintenance and Word Research, and in 1968 he retired .

Since 1924 he was in close contact with the Prague linguist circle around Vilém Mathesius . His estate is in the archive of the University of Jena.
