The Asahi Pentax S1a is a 35mm camera from Asahi Optical KK . In 1962 Asahi Optical KK brought out the successor to the Pentax S1 with the Pentax S1a . It was delivered with the Super Takumar 55mm f / 2. The camera was produced until 1968.
General
The Asahi Pentax S1a is a single-lens single -lens reflex camera from the Japanese company Asahi Optical KK for 135 film . On the American continent, it was sold under the Honeywell H1a brand. It has no built-in light meter and no time release. It has a semi-automatically coupled aperture control.
Data and equipment features
Controls
On the top of the camera, on the right shoulder, there is the shutter speed dial with times from 1 s to 1/500 s (the 1/1000 s is not marked but above the 1/500 s), a bulb for long exposures and one with an x marked intermediate position as flash sync time with 1/50 s. At the front left there is a signal window to indicate that the camera is ready when the camera is cocked. To the right of the time setting wheel is the film fast transport lever with built-in frame counter. The trigger is located between the time wheel and the transport lever.
On the left shoulder there is the film rewind crank with an ISO dial as a marker for the sensitivity of the film. There are 2 PC flash sync sockets on the left side of the mirror box. The upper one is for FP synchronization, the lower one for x synchronization. The backwash button and the tripod connection socket with 1/4 ″ BSW thread are located on the underside .
Clasp
The lock is a cloth slit lock that runs horizontally. The shutter is mechanically controlled and allows shutter speeds from 1/1000 s to 1 s, 1/50 s as flash sync time and bulb.
Viewfinder
The Pentax S1a has a penta prism finder with silver coating. The focusing screen is equipped with a micro prism ring . The viewfinder coverage is 93% of the film format and offers a magnification of 0.82 × with a 50mm lens in the infinity setting.
trigger
The camera shutter release is a mechanical button with an embedded thread. The thread is used to connect a cable release or mechanical time release.
