Asau is the administrative seat and capital of Vaitupu in the Pacific island state of Tuvalu . It is the only village on the nine-island atoll. Asau is located in the southwest of the main island and has 502 inhabitants (as of 2012).

Asau is divided into the quarters Asau in the south and Tumaseu in the north. The place has a hospital, church, sports field, elementary school, secondary school ( Motufoua Secondary School ) and post office.

A Mars crater is named after Asau ( see also list of Mars craters / A ).
