Ash (boat type)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Asch was a ship or boat, as they were used according to Schmeller, especially on the Salzach , Inn and Danube , mainly for the transport of salt.

With a crew of nine, over 15 tons of salt could be transported. The ship type Asch was replaced by the Hallasch , which was introduced as a standard salt ship in 1581 by the Schifferordnung. With the Hallasch you could transport as much salt as with the Asch, but only required a crew of six.
