L- ascorbate oxidase is an enzyme and membrane protein belonging to the group of oxidases .

properties

L- ascorbate oxidase of zucchini

The L ascorbate oxidase comes in plants against, inter alia, in turnip rape ( Brassica rapa ), in Pumpkin ( Cucurbita maxima ), in the zucchini ( Cucurbita pepo var. Melopepo ) in Cucumber ( Cucumis sativus ), and in the tobacco plant ( Nicotiana tabacum ). In the redox metabolism , it catalyzes the oxidation of ascorbic acid :

The L ascorbate oxidase is glycosylated and has disulfide bridges . Copper ions are cofactors of L -ascorbate oxidase. It is believed to be more involved in plant growth than in a stress response to ozone , salts , drought and phytopathogens . The enzyme activity of L -ascorbate oxidase can be measured photometrically at a wavelength of 245 nm.
