Ashfaq Parvez Kayani (* April 1952 ) is a Pakistani general and was head of the Pakistani intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence from 2004 to 2007 and then the army chief until 2013.

Life

Kayani was previously head of the Pakistani secret service Inter-Services Intelligence from October 2004 to October 2007 .

He was then Army Chief from November 2007 to November 2013. Pervez Musharraf , his predecessor in office, made him the de facto commander in chief of the armed forces of Pakistan . The US business magazine Forbes currently places Kayani at number 28 on the list of the most powerful people in the world . According to this ranking, Kayani was not only the most powerful Pakistani but also the most powerful active military in the world. His successor in office was General Raheel Sharif .
