Ashikaga Tadayoshi
Ashikaga Tadayoshi ( Japanese. 足 利 直 義 ; * 1306 ; † 1352 ) was a general of the time of the North and South Courts (1337-1392) of Japanese history . His older brother Ashikaga Takauji was the first Muromachi shogun .
After helping Emperor Go-Daigo in the Kemmu Restoration of 1333, Tadayoshi became the governor ( kami ) of Sagami Province . In 1335 , during the Nakasendai rebellion led by Hōjō Tokiyuki , Tadayoshi killed Go-Daigo's son, Prince Morinaga .
After turning against the emperor, Tadayoshi and Takauji installed a counter-emperor in 1336 and founded the Muromachi shogunate in 1338. As the driving force of the brothers, Takauji took over the military affairs and Tadayoshi the legal and administrative affairs. In 1350, however, Tadayoshi rebelled over a conflict with Takauji's governor, Kō no Moronao . In 1351 he conquered Kyōto (see Kannō riots ). An agreement between the brothers proved short-lived. Tadayoshi fled to Kamakura , being pursued by Takauji with an army. In March 1352, shortly after an alleged agreement, Tadayoshi died suddenly, probably of poison.
