The Ashland Bridge is a historic covered wooden bridge over the Red Clay Creek at the Barley Mill Road in New Castle County , in the US state of Delaware . The bridge, built around 1860, spans the Red Clay Creek and is passable for cars. It is located near the Ashland Nature Center of the Delaware Nature Society .
The design of the bridge is carried out using the lattice girder construction technique, which was constructed by the US architect Ithiel Town . It is almost identical to Wooddale Bridge , which is in the same county. Its maximum span as well as its total length is 16.5 meters. In 1965, when it was documented in the Historic American Engineering Record Study, it was one of the last three preserved covered bridges in the state of Delaware.
The Ashland Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 20, 1973 under the number 73000506 .
