Asir Mountains

The Asir Mountains (also: Asyr Mountains ) are located on the west side of the Arabian Peninsula in the region of the same name and run parallel to the Red Sea . The inhabitants are predominantly arable farmers and, like the Yemenis, are rather short of stature. Terraces and defense towers shape the landscape. The sloping clay architecture prevailing in Yemen extends to here. The holy city of Mecca is located in the Asir Mountains. The province of Asir begins south of it .
