Askeaton ( Irish : Eas Géitine ) is a town in County Limerick in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland .

Askeaton is located about 3 km upstream of the mouth of the River Shannon on the banks of the River Deel in northern Limerick, about 10 km east of Foynes on the N69 highway from Limerick City to Tralee in County Kerry . Askeaton is approximately 30 km from Limerick City. The population of the place was determined in the Census 2016 with 1137 people.

Askeaton is home to the remains of a castle dating from 1199 and the ruins of a Franciscan monastery from 1389 on an island in the River Deel .

To the rail transport in Ireland Askeaton was joined on 12 May 1857 to 2 December 1974th

The local St. Mary College has had a partnership with the German Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium Dahn since 1996 .
