Aspies eV - People in the Autism Spectrum is a self-help organization of adults with Asperger's Syndrome . In contrast to most other associations and organizations in the field of autism, it is run by autistic people. The non-profit association was founded in 2004, making it the oldest and largest German self-help association for people with Asperger's Syndrome in Germany.

Goals and Activities

The association demands participation for people on the autism spectrum in all areas of society and a say in all matters that affect autistic people. He provides educational work to reduce stigma and prejudice against autism in the public.

Events are held to enable exchange and get-togethers. Aspies eV is the organizer of the German Autism Day, which usually takes place close to Autistic Pride Day . The association supports the Auticon company in an advisory capacity. The association is involved in the creation of the S3 guideline on autism spectrum disorders and is a member of the European Autistic Net, the association of national interest groups for autistic people in Europe.

The online presence offers those affected and their relatives a forum, information, references to events and campaigns as well as addresses e.g. B. from doctors and lawyers who have experience with people with Asperger's Syndrome. The forum had more than 1500 members in October 2015 and more than 2200 members in July 2016. Aspies eV also manages its own specialist library with around 200 monographs.

The association is registered in the register of associations of the Berlin-Charlottenburg district court, is recognized as a non-profit organization, has a board of three autistic people and a management.
