Ludger Tebartz van Elst

Ludger Heinrich Tebartz van Elst (* 1965 ) is a German psychiatrist . He works as a professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and as a senior physician at the Freiburg University Medical Center.

Life

Tebartz van Elst studied philosophy and medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, the University of Manchester , the New York University and at the University of Zurich . In 1994 he did his doctorate in Freiburg with Joachim Bauer on the subject of depression . In 2004 he completed his habilitation on impulsive and emotionally unstable syndromes .

Tebartz van Elst is Deputy Medical Director of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Freiburg and since 2005 head of the Department for Experimental Neuropsychiatry there. He has been an adjunct professor since 2006 . His clinical interests are Asperger's Syndrome , schizophreniform disorders, and other neuropsychiatric disorders.

He is one of five children of a farming family from Twisteden in the Lower Rhine region . His brother Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst is Curia Bishop in the Vatican .
