Aspronisi ( Greek Ασπρόνησι ( n. Sg. )) Is an uninhabited Greek island in the southern Aegean Sea , which administratively to the municipality of Cyclades -Insel Thira in the region South Aegean part (Περιφέρεια Νότιου Αιγαίου).

The almost vegetationless island is part of the southwestern edge of the Santorini archipelago, which was built after the great volcanic eruption around 1625 BC. Caldera created in BC .

Aspronisi has an area of ​​0.142 km², a length of around 650 m, a width of around 200 m and an elongated shape. The topography is like a plateau with a plateau at around 70 m and rocky coasts sloping almost vertically into the sea on all sides. The geology corresponds to that of the other islands of Santorini, Thira and Thirasia , which form the crater rim . The lower part of the island plinth is made of black lava , the upper layer of white pumice stone . This is where the Greek name Aspronisi comes from , which translates as "white island" .

Since there are no sights on Aspronisi and a landing is difficult because of the almost vertical rocks and the often violent currents, the island is not approached by regular scheduled boats or excursion boats. Aspronisi is privately owned.
