Assíria Nascimento

Assíria Nascimento (birth name Assíria Seixas Lemos; born February 1, 1960 in Londrina ) is a Brazilian gospel singer . In 1994 she married Pelé , real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, and after the marriage took her husband's name.

Life

Assiria's family moved to Recife , the capital of the state of Pernambuco , in 1962 , where they spent their first formative youth. She later lived in the USA for 18 years , where she continued her education in theology and psychology and sang in a Protestant church choir. In 1987 she graduated from the private Nyack College in New York City with a degree in psychology . In addition to Portuguese and English, she also speaks French, Spanish and Italian.

In 1984 she met Pelé for the first time. After returning to Brazil in 1994, they married. Twins come from the marriage and their sister from a previous relationship. The marriage with Pelé was divorced in 2008.

The Baptist Assíria made a name for herself as a gospel interpreter. In 1996 she won one of the most famous awards on the Christian music scene, the GMA Dove Award . In Nashville, Tennessee, her CD entitled Brillas, which she sang with her husband, won the Spanish Album of the Year category .
