Assi Ghat
Assi Ghat is the southernmost ghat in Varanasi . It is a place where long-term foreign students, researchers and tourists also live.
Tourism at the Assi Ghat
Assi Ghat is one of the ghats that are often visited for rest and relaxation and during festivals. On typical days, around 300 people an hour visit this ghat in the morning and around 2,500 people an hour on festival days. The ghat can accommodate around 22,500 people at a time at festivals like Shivratri .
Hindus believe that it was at Assi Ghat that Tulsidas ascended to his heavenly abode .
After the 2010 bomb attack in Benares, additional police forces were relocated near the Assi Ghat to ensure greater security.
The Ganga Mahal Ghat is located south of the Assi Ghat .
Novels and films
Kashinath Singh's Hindi Roman Kashi Ka Assi is set in the Mohalla , near this ghat. The novel served as the basis for Mohalla Assi , a 2015 Bollywood film with Sunny Deol directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi , which is set in the Mohalla (location) around Assi Ghat.
Raanjhanaa , a 2013 film that is also based on a story set in Varanasi , also has scenes centered around "Assi Ghat".
