Ganga Mahal Ghat
Ganga Mahal Ghat ( Hindi गंगा महल घाट ) is one of the most important ghats on the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi . It was built in 1830 under the Narayan Dynasty . It is located north of the Assi Ghat and was originally intended as an extension of the Assi Ghat to the north.
history
The Narayan dynasty built a palace on the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi in 1830 . The palace was called Ganga Mahal ('Mahal' means 'palace' in Hindi). Because the palace was located above the ghat, the ghat was called "Ganga Mahal Ghat". Steps between the Assi Ghat and the Ganga Mahal Ghat separate the two ghats. The palace is now used by educational institutions. The first floor is used by the World Literacy program of Canada , the second and third floor by the Indo-Swedish Study Center , which is organized by the University of Karlstad .
location
Ganga Mahal Ghat is located on the banks of the Ganges . It is 6 kilometers southeast of the Varanasi Junction railway station and about 100 meters north of the Assi Ghat .
