Assiculoides desmonotus is a little-known, very small species of fish from the dwarf perch family(Pseudochromidae) thatoccurson the Kimberley coast in western Australia.

The specimens of Assiculoides desmonotus examined at the first description had standard lengths of 11 to 54.8 mm. Like cichlids, the fish have two side lines , a front that runs anterodorsally below the base of the dorsal fin and a rear one that lies roughly in the middle of the back of the body. Their pectoral fins have a fin spine and five branched soft rays. As diagnostic features of species and genus, vertically aligned rows of scales apply on the rear body (oblique in all other dwarf perches) and on the caudal stalk, as well as a low membrane that extends on the short caudal stem from the last ray of the dorsal fin to the upper edge of the caudal fin. As a result, the middle row of scales lying above is missing on the tail stalk. In all other dwarf perches, the dorsal fin and caudal fin are completely separate from each other. The caudal fin is supported by 23 or 24, rarely also by 25 fin rays.
