The Assin District is a former district in the Central Region in Ghana with the district capital Fosu . Only by decree of November 12, 2003 by President John Agyekum Kufuor , the district was divided into two new districts Assin North District and Assin South District as part of the administrative reform in 2004 .

This district had a population of 196,479 in the 2000 census, covering an area of ​​2,409 km².
