The Association Najdeh (AN; Arabic جمعية النجدة الاجتماعية, DMG Ǧamʿiyyat an-Naǧda al-Iǧtimāʿiyya , English association = association, Arabic najdeh = help) is a non-governmental organization that operates in and around the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon . She fights against discrimination against Palestinian women and takes part in campaigns for the right to work in Lebanon and the right to return to Palestine for Palestinians .

history

The association was founded in 1976 by a group of Lebanese men and women. It aims to provide an income for Palestinian refugees, especially women, after they have been transferred to the Tel-Za'atar refugee camp . An embroidery workshop was opened and, as well as a kindergarten and other jobs, created income opportunities. Eventually the headquarters were moved to Beirut and the association was registered as a social independent Lebanese non-governmental organization in 1978 in the Ministry of the Interior.

Between 2005 and 2006 the Association Najdeh developed codes of conduct to strengthen the role of social institutions. The Burj al-Barajneh camp opposed the introduction of an Islamic constitution in 2006. In May 2007 she mobilized the residents of the Nahr al-Bared camp during a conflict to demonstrate for relief and work relief. On April 30, 2009, the Association Najdeh, together with other Lebanese-Palestinian partners, organized demonstrations in all regions of Lebanon under the motto “Campaign for the right to work of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon”. The main purpose is to empower women in Palestinian society whom it sees as the most disadvantaged Palestinian refugees . Improving their position in Palestinian society also affects their economic, social and educational roles.

The General Assembly elects a secretariat; this appoints the members of the executive committee. The General Assembly consists of 70 percent women and 30 percent men. At the beginning it consisted of six women. Najdeh's staff consists mainly of Palestinian refugee women. 80 percent of the beneficiaries are Palestinians, the remaining 20 percent are men and people of other nationalities.

Najdeh works in 26 locations in and around refugee camps . Programs focus on women and include: vocational training programs , parenting and educational programs, mother-child programs, social affairs programs, domestic violence projects , microcredit and embroidery. Najdeh promotes Palestinian rights by raising awareness about children's health, women's rights and children's rights. Najdeh reaches over 10,000 refugees in all camps, including Burj El-Barajneh, Nahr al-Bared and Shatila camps .

The association has the vision of a Palestinian community based on national and human rights , social justice and equality between women and men. She has been a member of the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership International (HAP International) since August 2009 and represents its values ​​of transparency and accountability.

In terms of financing, donations from donor organizations and individuals in Europe, the USA and Canada play a major role. Other sources of income include surpluses from the production of embroidery, student fees and fees for the Women and Children programs.
