Association of Commercial Television in Europe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Commercial Television in Europe (ACT) is an association that represents the interests of private television broadcasters . The association, based in Brussels , was founded in 1989.

The association represents the interests of its members at European institutions and international organizations. The most important media policy issues on which the ACT represents the interests of its members are:

  • Directive on audiovisual media services (AVMS Directive)
  • Advertising & commercial communication
  • State aid (including license fees ) for public service broadcasting
  • Copyright & Related Rights
  • Digitization & New Media
  • Media pluralism
  • Sales tax on media
  • Sports

In the "2nd ACT Annual Conference 2009", which took place in Brussels on November 4, 2009, the President of ACT, Philippe Delusinne (CEO RTL Belgium), stated: “It is the attractiveness and the continuing interest of viewers in the medium Television, which in the future - partly in combination with other media platforms - will ensure that television remains the central medium of mass communication . The medium of television will not only survive, it will continue to prosper in the future. But this perspective depends on the requirements of European regulation. In order for private television broadcasters to be well positioned in the future, a regulatory rethinking must take place that gives up small-scale, prescriptive regulatory administration and instead offers solutions to take advantage of the opportunities offered by technological change. "

Association structure

Philippe Delusinne, CEO of RTL Belgium , was elected President of the association at the annual general meeting on June 9, 2009. Ross Biggam has been the association's executive director since 2000. Within the association, the representation of interests is coordinated by various working groups, with the tasks of the working groups corresponding to the media policy issues listed above.
