The Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) is a network of European universities offering spatial and urban planning courses . The network was founded in 1987 on the initiative of Patsy Healey and Klaus Kunzmann at Schloss Cappenberg and has been registered as a non-profit organization under Belgian law since 1992. It is the European subsidiary of the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN). The acronym is based on the Greek poet Aesop .

The network holds various regular events. Among them are the academic conferences, which usually take place annually, and represent the most important and largest planning science meeting in Europe. Every five years this rule is deviated from when the World Planning Schools Congress takes place.

The network is managed by an Executive Committee . The chairmanship is held by a President and a Secretary General. The previous presidents were: Klaus Kunzmann, Louis Albrecht, Giorgio Piccinato, Patsy Healey, Marcel Bazin, Tadeusz Markowski, Hans Mastop, Alessandro Balducci, Simin Davoudi , Peter Ache , Wilem Salet and Kristina L. Nilsson . The current president is Anna Geppert.

There are various sub-organizations within the network, such as the Network of Young Academics ( AESOP Young Academics ) and thematic groups (currently 14).
